Handmade in Ronan, Montana

Our story

We're horse owners building tack for horse owners. This is who we are, why we do it, and a few of the pieces that have come through our door.

Who we are

Built by hand, by horse people

At Muley Bluz we know what good tack feels like. We ride, we train, we rope and barrel race, and we've spent enough hours in the saddle to know the difference between gear that's built to work and gear that's just built to sell. We proudly make our own equipment, and yours too.

Everything we do is cut, tooled, and finished by hand at our shop in Ronan, Montana. Custom saddles. Breast collars and headstalls with the conchos and color to match your look. Belts, wallets, and gifts that carry a little something extra. And a full line of hand-finished tack that's ready to ride the day you pick it up.

We're not a big box, and we don't try to be. When you buy from us, you get the person who built it. It's an experience that's nothing like the world of one-click and next-day shipping. Just leather, done right, by people who'll still be here when you need us again.

Custom Work

Made to fit you and your horse

Every custom build starts with a conversation. Your leather, your tooling, your colors, your measurements. Whether it's a saddle from the ground up or a breast collar with a little shine, we build it to fit the way you ride and last the way good gear should.

Repair & Restore

We fix what most shops won't

Not many shops repair anymore, and that's exactly why we do. Bring us a saddle with worn stitching and fleece, a tack set that's seen better days, or a piece you can't bring yourself to part with. We'll tell you honestly what it needs and bring it back to life.

Stories from the shop

Every saddle tells a story

Some of the pieces that have crossed our bench. These are the ones that stick with you.

Restored for display

The lightning saddle

A saddle came to us with a silver horn and a story. Its owner, his horse, and this saddle were struck by lightning while moving cattle years ago. We brought it back to life for display, and we're hand-tooling a set of bags to match the ones that were lost.

Repair & restore

A graduation gift

A man brought in his mother's old saddle and asked if we could make it right for his niece's graduation. About thirty hours of work later, it went to her ready for many more miles. That's the kind of job we live for.

Custom leatherwork

A belt worth wearing

A woman asked us to build a hand-tooled belt for her husband, who'd just lost his dad. He wore it a week and a half later. She told us it meant more than she could say. Leather remembers the people we make it for.

From the Shop You don't just buy it here. You get the person who built it, and somewhere to come back to when it needs a little care.

The hands behind the leather

Effie

Owner

The one you'll usually talk to. Effie handles custom tack, repairs, and restoration, and keeps the shop connected with the folks who ride out of it. She's also versed in horse breeding, training, and competition, so she's your go-to for equipment questions, saddle fit, and horse wellness.

Tate

Saddle Maker

Custom & Traditional Leather Creations. A formally trained saddle maker, Tate builds saddles from the ground up and handles most custom pieces, from belts, wallets, chinks & chaps, and tack to anything else you can dream up. He turns customer ideas into pieces of art and has a real feel for leather.

Shannon

Owner

The one that prompted the adventure. Shannon's at the shop most Fridays and Saturdays when he isn't working as a wildlife biologist. He works on the repair side of the Muley, and he's a drop-off point for folks on the south end of the Mission Valley, bringing their custom work in.

Zaiden

Tack Builder & Saddle Maker

Zaiden recently finished saddle school and works a few days a week hand-building tack, completing repairs, and keeping the workshop organized when it feels like a whirlwind hit the work area. New to the team, she's jumped in with both feet and works to the highest standards.
